Lupine Plant Used for Food

Q: In Germany it’s possible to buy food products made out of the lupine plant. You have millions and millions of that plant in Iceland, isn’t it possible to use it for food?

Susanne Bodewaldt-Wesche.

A: The only food product made out of lupine in Iceland that I know of is Ævar’s Lupine Tea and Herbal Remedy. “Some have used this tea in order to maintain general good health while others have used it after a diagnosis with serious illness, reoccurring illness and/or when a weakened immune system is indicated. Most people have used it alongside medication and radiation treatment for cancer,” as it says on the website, which carries the product.
