Minister for Foreign Affairs Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson will discuss the Haukur Hilmarsson case with Turkey’s Minister of the Economy today, RÚV reports. The Turkish minister, Nihat Zeybekci, and Guðlaugur, are both attending the annual European Free Trade Association Ministerial Meeting taking place in Sauðárkrókur, North Iceland today.
“We will discuss among other things the state of human rights in the country. Even the Haukur Hilmarsson case,” Guðlaugur told RÚV, adding that he had brought up the case with other ministers.
Haukur Hilmarsson disappeared during a Turkish air raid in Syria on February 24 and is believed to be dead or captured. Activist group Hvar er Haukur? (Where is Haukur?) has been campaigning for the government to increase their efforts to find him.
