Reykjavík’s entire fire department, including those on back duty, are fighting a fire in Garðabær, just outside the capital, RÚV reports. The fire broke out in a large building housing an Icewear clothing store, storage units, and offices.
High temperatures have shattered windowpanes on the building, and smoke is rising 50-60 metres (160-200 feet) up in the air. Firefighters are dousing the building with water in an effort to stop the flames.
Some people were in the building when the fire started but managed to leave safety. No injuries have been reported.
