The Icelandic Football Association, along with kit manufacturer Errea, has revealed the new kit for the Icelandic men’s football team, visir.is reports. The team will wear the kit this summer in the 2018 World Cup which will take place in Russia. The main kit has blue as the main colour, with red and white design on the sleeves and around the neck.

The second kit is white, while the goalkeeper kit will be red, with both kits featuring the same design on the sleeves.

Guðni Bergsson, the President of the Icelandic Football Association commented on the kit: “We have waited for the kit a long time. I am sure that the kit will energize people and create a lot of debate.”

Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, the President of Iceland, was presented with the first kit. “It is a clean-cut style. A couple of weeks ago a teaser was presented where we saw dots. I was fearful then that the whole kit would be like that,” Guðni commented. He went further, stating “I know that Icelanders will come to like this kit. It is our jersey and both our men and women will do their best for country and nation. That is the main point.”

Iceland is heading to its first ever World Cup this summer, and by doing so becomes the smallest nation ever to have competed in the competition, beating the record previously held by Trinidad and Tobago.

Italian designer Filippo Affani designed the kit, which is inspired by Icelandic nature, as he works with fire and ice in the design. Italian kit manufacturer Errea has designed the kits for Iceland since 2002. The kit can be bought at www.errea.is, as well as local sportswear retailers in Iceland.

The Icelandic team will wear the kit for the first time against Peru and Mexico in the United States. The matches will take place in New Jersey and San Francisco and are part of Icelandic preparations for the World Cup.
