Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson Dies at 48

Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson died yesterday in Berlin, RÚV.is reports. He was found dead in his apartment, his manager Tim Huson has confirmed. The cause of death is unknown at this moment. Jóhannsson had reached the age of 48 years old.

Jóhansson was a critically acclaimed composer who had been nominated for numerous awards in the last couple of years. He worked closely with Canadian director Dennis Villeneuve, composing the soundtrack for movies such as Prisoners, Arrival, and Sicario. He received the Golden Globe award in 2014 for his composition for The Theory of Everything. His most recent project was composing the music for an upcoming film about Mary Magdalene's life. Furthermore, Jóhannsson leaves behind him a body of work as both a solo artist and as a member of the bands HAM and Apparat Organ Quartet.

“I’m so very sad. Today, I lost my friend who was one of the most talented musicians and intelligent people I knew. We came a long way together.”, Tim Huson commented.

Jóhannsson is survived by his parents, sisters, and daughter.
