The Icelandic Literature Centre received a record 119 grant applications for translation of Icelandic works in 2017. The number of applications have increased by 21 percent from the previous year. Of the applications, 21 were for translating Icelandic works into Nordic languages. RÚV reported first.
ISK 15 million (USD 144,000/EUR 120,000) were allocated to translation grants in 2017, in addition to ISK 5.5 million provided by the Nordic Council of Ministers for translating works from Icelandic into Nordic languages. A total of 96 projects were awarded grants, while the króna’s strong exchange rate will surely help them stretch further than in previous years.
