Dead Mouse Found In Salad A Cause For Investigation

Mouse In A Salad

A man sought help in the University Hospital of Iceland after coming across a dead baby mouse in a salad he purchased at the restaurant Fresco. This took place in Reykjavík this past weekend.

The Public Health Authority was notified and investigated the restaurant in co-operation with its staff. "The restaurant was temporarily closed while we investigated. There is, however, no reason to keep it closed as there is nothing that indicates a rodent problem," Óskar Ísfeld Sigurðsson from the Public Health Authority told MBL.

Currently, the salad itself is being investigated, as well as the dead mouse. Innes, the manufacturer of the spinach used in the salad, has just in case called in every other spinach products sold at a similar time period.

"We're taking all of the spinach that had made its way to stores. We currently don't know whether it originated from abroad or here," Halldór Jökull Ragnarsson from Innes told Vísir.

Einar Ásgeirsson, one of Fresco's owner is saddened by the news and believes it impossible for the mouse to have come from the restaurant. Although a tiny bug may occasionally come into a salad, a baby mouse would be impossible.

"The salad is washed, placed into an ice bath, and repackaged several times. The mouse came into the salad because of a person who wanted to do us harm."
