Sharp Growth in Tourism Turnover, Decline in Fisheries

Reykjavík Tourist Information.

Tourism turnover rose sharply in March and April this year, compared with the same period last year, reports RÚV. Turnover at travel agencies and tour operators increased by 23.3 percent year-on-year, while turnover at hotels and restaurants was up 18.6 percent and at companies that lease cars and other motor vehicles, by 25.2 percent.

This was in contrast to the revenue decline in the fisheries industry this March and April, compared with the same period last year. Turnover from fishing, aquaculture and processing was 9.4 percent lower, while turnover from the sale of fish was 18.6 percent lower.

These figures on turnover in value-added activities were published by Statistics Iceland this morning. Construction revenues have also increased considerably, by 20.5 percent year-on-year.
