Iceland is out of the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, Ukraine, RÚV reports. Iceland’s contribution, the song Paper, performed by singer Svala Björgvinsdóttir, did not make it through the cut-off last night, when 18 nations competed in the first semi-final for the right to participate in the Grand Final on Saturday. The countries that made it through to the final last night are Moldova, Azerbaijan, Greece, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Armenia Australia, Cyprus and Belgium. The second semi-final will be tomorrow night.
This is the third year in a row that Iceland does not make it to the finals.
Svala told RÚV that she did her best during the contest. She is not interested in participating in Eurovision again. “I will do this only once. This was amazing, unbelievably fun, and gave me a great experience. It’s only positive. To me, this is a great adventure and it’s terrific to get a chance to try this once.”
